These chisels are made by hand welding high carbon steel ("white steel") to wrought iron (softer metal). The cutting edge reaches the hardness of Rockwell c 65 degrees, which keeps its sharpness over long periods of heavy chopping. The handles are double hooped and are made from tough Japanese oak.
